Lisa Franklin reviews new festive pantomime Aladdin at Theatre Royal Bath, running until 8 January.

Slipping into our Christmas gladrags, we set off for a fun filled Friday night of belly laughs at the Theatre Royal for their Panto, Aladdin. Knowing the award-winning legendary Jon Monie was returning to the Bath stage as Wishee Washee and cast alongside Tom Lister as the wicked Abanazar and Nick Wilton (Widow Twankey), we knew we were going to be in for a treat.

Drawn in from the beginning with the dazzling sparkles from Amy Perry (Spirit of the Ring), musicality was on-point, not forgetting the wonderful voices of Alex Aram (Aladdin), Maddison Tyson (Genie) and Kaysha Nada (Princess Jasmine).

Ducking and diving through the classic Aladdin story we were taken through some uncharted territories for this Panto rendition. Scenes were filled with innuendos and comedic skits for all the family.

Highlights were without a doubt the cleverly written mashup of lyrics from songs we all know and love. ABBA’s Money, Money, Money remix will not leave my head, I’m sure we’ll be singing it well into the New Year.

If you’re looking to get into the Christmas Spirit this season, the cast of Aladdin will be sure to help you on your way.
